Product Review: Naturopathica Vitamin C Revitalizing Complex & Reader Giveaway

Naturopathica's Vitamin C Revitalizing Complex is one of their best selling products, and for good reason - the antioxidant combination of Vitamins A, C, and E work to neutralize free radicals and protect skin. Kudzu extract guards against the breakdown of collagen and elastin to help maintain skin's youthfulness, while plant derived enzymatic antioxidant Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) neutralizes superoxide radicals to slow down the signs of aging. On top of all these skin-boosting benefits, this light moisturizer is vegan, animal friendly, and a clean cosmeceutical.

Price: $28.00 for 1.0 oz, $58.00 for 2.5 oz

Availability: online at naturopathica.com and selected locations

Packaging: cobalt blue plastic pump bottle

Ingredients: [from Naturopathica site] Aqua/Water/Eau, Algae Extract, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice,  Squalane, Leuconostoc/ Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Water,  Ascorbic Acid Polypeptide, Oat Beta Glucan, Glycoproteins, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Phospholipids,  Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Superoxide Dismutase, Borago Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil, Sclerotium Gum, Pueraria Lobata (Kudzu) Symbiosome Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Leaf Extract, Rosa Centifolia (Rose) Bud Extract, Lecithin, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Oil, Citrus Sinensis (Blood Orange) Peel Oil, Tilia Cordata (Linden) Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Xanthan Gum, P-Anisic Acid

Directions: Apply a pea size amount to face morning and night. May also be layered under your favorite (Naturopathica) moisturizer for increased hydration during colder months.

Initial Thoughts: The pump dispenses just the right amount of product with one pump - two pumps if your skin feels especially tight or dry. The product feels lightweight, and the Vitamin C and Kudzu give it a sweet citrus scent which fades after applying it to your face. It has a slight peach color, and spreads across your face easily.

I haven't been using the Revitalizing Complex very long (about 2 weeks upon writing this review) but I can see some immediate results in that short amount of time. Thankfully, my skin has not experienced a negative reaction to using the product. After applying facial toner, I apply a small amount of the Revitalizing Complex to my skin, followed by my regular facial moisturizer.

Since I've started using the Revitalizing Complex, my skin feels smoother and the recent acne scars I have from the occasional pimple have been healing/fading faster (thanks to the Vitamin C). While I haven't noticed a major change in preventing the signs of aging, prolonged use may have a greater effect and anyone with more mature skin may notice a bigger change.

Pros:
+ Lightweight, absorbed into skin easily
+ Nice citrus scent
+ Light moisturizer - good for normal/combo skin
+ Vegan and animal friendly product
+ Product will last a long time (only need 1-2 pumps per application)
+ Aided in healing/fading acne scars and slight discoloration marks

Cons:
- Non-citrus scent fans won't be fond of this (scent does fade upon application)
- Cost may be out of range for some
- Lightweight moisturizer may not work for very dry skin
- Older scars/discoloration may not fade immediately (long-term use may have better results)
- May not be easily available depending on your location

Overall: After having used several products containing Vitamin C and other ingredients aimed at reducing the signs of aging, the Vitamin C Revitalizing Complex has found a place in my Top 5. (I like Philosophy's Vitamin C Powder as an easier way to add Vitamin C to my skincare products, mixing with a serum or moisturizer.) The combination of vitamins and extracts makes for a good, lightweight moisturizer, especially in the summer if you have normal or combination skin. It might need to be paired with another moisturizer in colder temperatures or if you have dry skin, but I think it would be a nice addition to your lineup of skincare products if you're looking for moisturizer with antioxidants or with antiaging properties.
