Revisiting: No Heat Curls - Method No. 2

Last month I wrote about curling your hair without heat tools, using strips of cloth. It's a good method to use if you want curls for a night out and you're spending most of the day indoors, since you end up looking like a rag doll with all the rolls and bits of fabric in your hair. I found another way to curl your hair without any heat tools, which is now my preferred method to curl my hair and save it from heat damage. It's a pretty easy method, but here is the video that I used for extra tips:

Basically you air dry your hair about 75%, apply your choice of hair product (leave-in conditioner if your hair is dry, volumizing mousse, hair serum, etc.), and grab an elastic headband. I like the Goody headbands that have a strip of rubber on one side to "grip" the hair and stay in place. Place it on your head, but don't pull it down around your neck - put it on the way you'd put on a hat, so the headband sits above your ears.

Then you just take a section of hair, pull it up, roll it behind the headband, and pull the section down towards your shoulder. Roll once and then make a new section - you'll wind all of your hair up. Fluff up the hair above the rolled section so it doesn't look too flat later on, and go about your day while your hair continues to dry. If you rolled your hair neatly, you could even wear your hair like this outside, or if you wear berets/beanies/scarves, you can cover your hair and go out for a while.

Note: If you want tight, springy curls, grab small sections of hair and roll it as tight as you can around the headband. If you want loose, wavy curls, roll thicker sections around the headband.

After your hair has dried, carefully pull the headband off and untwist your hair.
Feel free to reapply any shine serum at this point, focusing on the ends.

after a few passes of a brush, the curls are soft and wavy :) sorry for blurring out my face, but I was just hanging out at home and my skin wasn't at its best - it's actually just starting to look normal again, thanks to a persistent bunch of eczema on the lower half of my face over the holidays.

This is a great method to try if you want some curls or waves in your hair, but you don't want to damage it with hair dryers and curling irons. You can sleep with this in your hair as well - I'd suggest wrapping a scarf around your head to prevent it from getting too messed up from tossing or turning.
